"*It took 3 visits and 2 phone calls to successfully change our address, over a period of 6 months. \n\nIn the past, I have gotten good customer service. But this time I was accused of “You came here for yourself “. By some Arrogant, Cocky, Raiders shirt,no name tag, jerk. ???? Who is he there for if not for himself? Out of the goodness of his heart? I doubt he has one. \n\n He would not change our address. I told him I was in pain. And that I would go home and call the address change in. “No, you have to stay here”. I had already been waiting for an hour on hard plastic chairs with a hip injury. \n\nI wish It didn’t feel like I was under arrest when I walked in there. \n\nI went home and called to make the address change. They called back in an hour. \n\nNo one goes there unless they absolutely have to. The DMV is pure heaven in comparison."

How do I apply for Social Security benefits?

For most people applying for benefits, you can apply online or over the phone, and skip going to the office altogether. Use a checklist to ensure you have all the information and documentation you need to apply.

How do I report a death?

Funeral homes typically handle reporting of a death to the SSA. However, you will need to provide the funeral home with the deceased’s Social Security number for them to do so. Note that deaths cannot be reported online. If you want to report the person’s death yourself, call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. You also visit your local Social Security office in person.
