"I had all the proper documents to get a replacement card for an elderly relative that I’m legal guardian of, because they are in a locked facility/ legally not mentally competent. The supervisor said I had to have the not mentally competent person sign- EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT CONSCIOUS I WAS TO TAKE their hand and scribble something. The one in Yonkers accepted my papers with no problems."

"Place is the worst. Nothing ever goes smooth. My elderly mother by accident put that we had an appointment but didnt. I asked the security guard if we needed a new ticket, she said no. After waiting over an hour, we later found out that we needed a new ticket because they took our number off the board. Which made us wait even longer. When we got to the window the women stated that she couldn't help us because the system wasnt updated yet. \n\nThe staff isn't friendly. I would put zero stars if I could. Avoid this place if u can. Call the 800 number and see how u can avoid coming here.\n\nGood luck."

Your Social Security income is made up of 3 potential benefits. Your earned benefit, your spousal

For most people applying for benefits, you can apply online or over the phone, and skip going to the office altogether. Use a checklist to ensure you have all the information and documentation you need to apply.
Funeral homes typically handle reporting of a death to the SSA.
However, you will need to provide the funeral home with the deceased’s Social Security number for them to do so. Note that deaths cannot be reported online.
If you want to report the person’s death yourself, call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
