"Called the state agency to make a follow up, the lady answered my call and was told my application is just sitting in the local office per check on my application and as she checked on it there is nothing wrong with the application either should forwarded it to them so they can double check it but it's been sitting in the local office. I told her I haven't heard from them what to do next. Why they haven't forwarded it yet so it can keep moving...the lady answered, I'm confused too. So at the end of the call she gave me the local phone number. Eventually I called the local office, the man answered, and I introduced my named and purpose of the call. He replied, oh disability takes 5 months to process, but anyway I'll forward you to the lady who handles your short, after all the call waiting and etc.. I was transferred, nobody answered, ended up leaving voicemail. That's how terrible my experience was. Just plain hopelessness and disappointment."

How do I apply for Social Security benefits?

How do I report a death?

Funeral homes typically handle reporting of a death to the SSA. However, you will need to provide the funeral home with the deceased’s Social Security number for them to do so. Note that deaths cannot be reported online. If you want to report the person’s death yourself, call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. You also visit your local Social Security office in person.
