But just how many people receive Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) benefits? Each year, the SSA compiles data on the total number of recipients, drilling all the way down to the ZIP Code level.<\/p><p>To keep this report a bit easier to digest, we looked at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/policy\/docs\/statcomps\/oasdi_zip\/2018\/oasdi_zip18.pdf\">latest SSA numbers<\/a>\u00a0(for 2018) and break down\u00a0how many people collect Social Security by state. In total,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplywise.com\/blog\/social-security-retirement-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">there were nearly 63 million Social Security beneficiaries in the United States in 2018<\/a>\u00a0receiving more than $84 billion in total benefits. We also broke out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplywise.com\/blog\/social-security-benefits-by-age\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recipients over the age of 65<\/a>\u00a0 whether they were retired, disabled or receiving\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplywise.com\/blog\/ss-benefits-if-my-spouse-dies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survivor benefits<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>Here are the
