Concrete gets a 4 in slab with wire mesh, 6.5 cubic yards after the CIP 31 ordering allowance. That 4 in slab on grade is the section NRMCA CIP 6 uses in its own joint spacing example. It carries no subbase, so the concrete column here is the lighter of the two build ups and the gap it shows is the narrow one.

Why the asphalt vs concrete driveway gap is wider than it looks
Wisconsin specification 460.5 says the hot mix bid item is “full compensation for providing HMA pavement including binder”. The concrete band is ready mix and mesh, nothing more.
Crew time sits on top. BLS OEWS May 2025 puts cement masons at $27.41 an hour median and $28.87 mean, and construction laborers at $22.66 median and $25.02 mean, so two finishers and a laborer is $620 to $662 for an eight hour day, wages only.
The asphalt column already paid for labor the concrete column has not, and still lands lower. Neither band is a residential quote: both are public contract prices and an industry survey, at contract volume.

What the weather does to an asphalt vs concrete driveway
