How much do cleaning services cost right now?

How much do cleaning services cost? A standard clean runs $120 to $312 for a studio up to 3 bedrooms. That is before add-ons or a deep clean.

Many cleaning companies quote by phone and post no prices. Two that do post a real price list are Sophia’s Cleaning Service and Sparkly Maid Chicago. Every number on this page comes from those two lists or from the BLS.

What moves the price of a cleaning service

Four things move the number. Here they are, one at a time.

  • Home size. More rooms means more hours. A 4 bedroom or larger home runs $280 to $450 and up at Sparkly Maid.
  • First visit or recurring. The first visit costs more. After that, Sophia’s takes 15 percent off weekly, 10 percent off biweekly and 5 percent off monthly.
  • Deep clean or move out. These take longer, so they cost more. Sparkly Maid starts a deep clean at $180 to $250 for a small apartment.
  • Add-ons. Each one is its own line. Interior windows run $40 to $75 at Sparkly Maid.

Cleaning prices by home size

This is Sparkly Maid Chicago’s posted price for a standard clean. It is what the company bills, not what a cleaner earns.

Home size Standard clean
Studio or 1 bedroom $120 to $160
2 bedroom $160 to $220
3 bedroom $220 to $300
4 bedroom or larger $280 to $450 and up

Sophia’s prices the first visit instead, so it runs higher. A studio or 1 bedroom starts at $192 to $240 there.

What do cleaners charge per hour?

$40 to $60 per cleaner per hour. That is Sparkly Maid Chicago’s posted rate. Sophia’s price list works out to about $52 an hour.

A cleaner earns far less. Maids and Housekeeping Cleaners earn a $17.83 mean hourly wage nationally, per the BLS (May 2025).

The gap is not pure profit. It pays for supplies, insurance, drive time and scheduling. Do not undercut it before you run that math for your own market.

How much more is a deep clean or move out?

$400 to $600 and up for a larger home. That is Sparkly Maid’s deep clean price. A small apartment runs $180 to $250.

Move out cleaning runs close behind. It reaches $450 to $600 and up for 4 bedrooms or larger.

Sophia’s does not post separate deep clean or move out prices. Its site says a deep clean takes longer than a standard visit, so it costs more, and it prices a move out as a deep clean.

Add-ons to price on their own line

Only Sparkly Maid posts add-on prices, so treat these as one company’s menu.

  • Inside fridge: $25 to $35.
  • Inside oven: $30 to $45.
  • Interior windows: $40 to $75.
  • Wall washing: $60 to $150.

How to price a cleaning job so it holds margin

  1. Set a base rate by size, not a guess

Use the size table above as your floor and ceiling. Then set your crew’s rate against your own costs. See contractor hourly labor rates by trade.

  2. Add for deep clean or move out scope

A first visit, deep clean or move out costs more than a standard clean. Quote the scope, not just the square footage.

  3. Price add-ons as separate line items

Fridge, oven, windows and wall washing are not part of a standard clean. Price each one on its own line.

  4. Set your recurring discount, then send the quote

Weekly and biweekly customers should pay less than a one time visit. Put the discount in the quote up front.
